A Busy Day On Foot and In The Mail

A fairly unsuccessfully trip back to Kroger to pick up some LEGO planets for a friend yielded a surprise. Kroger stocked a new Darth Vader 'grandson' birthday card. So congratulations to whomever came in behind me to clean out the LEGOs... and Thank You for leaving the greeting cards alone for me. :)

The next stop was Walmart where I found these 2-packs of socks by HYP on sale for $5 each. The first set are Darth Vader and Stormtrooper helmets. The second set is Yoda and R2-D2. They're adult sized so I'll finally be able to slip my feet in for some Star Wars comfort.

R2-KT The Pink Droid with a Heart of Gold

Today Charlotte the mail lady brought me the next run of R2-KT patches. The first one is actually a re-run of the original Christmas patch. Also included in the set are an R2-Kt with antlers and a North Pole patch. The loop on the last two patches are to hang them as ornaments, or else the loop can be removed and they are standard patches. There is one more patch coming but a production snapfu held it up. Watch for it to arrive one day very, very soon.

Quickly! To The Grocery Store!

75% off. Really? Need I say more?

A trip to Krogers last night for some peppermint ice cream set the stage for a nice LEGO find. In the holiday section which now boasts a 75% mark down, there were some LEGO planet sets ($2.50 each!) and a couple of Darth Maul movie hero figures. (I guess a devil-looking villain wasn't necessarily a good stocking stuffer this year.)

Playpack and Calendar Lead The Year

Star Wars Angry Birds was the 2012 "Game of the Year" and one of the most demanded cross-overs in Star Wars history!

Just in time for Christmas there was a flood of merchandise available including t-shirts, sleep pants, backpacks, drawstring bags, puzzles, and a whole range of plush figures.

Today while unpacking Christmas, two more items have been added into the collection... a Star Wars Angry Birds Grab and Go PlayPack and a 16-month wall calendar.

The First Licensed Star Wars Candlestick Holder Since 1981

We hate putting caveats on our articles, but as Obi-Wan is fond of pointing out, many things are true from certain points of view... under 'party supplies', there are holders of birthday candles for cake tops which could be argued as being candle holders. If you eliminate the disposable / single use candle holders, there have only been two licensed as housewares.

In 1981 Sigma The Tastesetter had a ceramic porcelain Yoda candlestick holder. Today we received the second ever licensed candlestick holder, a Darth Vader lightsaber replica with base!

Star Wars Christmas at Michaels

Without going into names... the license holder for coloring and activity books before Dalmatian Press had some pretty pricey books for sale. Ever since Dalmatian took over the license, there have been really nice, affordable books produced. Last night while shopping for some last minute pieces to finish a Christmas gift, we came across this coloring book, "Duty and Honor" at the checkout.

Order from Toy Chamber has arrived!

The image above may be a little difficult to make out at this resolution if you're not familiar with the object. It's a 1982 Star Wars holoprismatic bumper sticker featuring Darth Vader and the Star Wars logo in the foreground with X-Wings attacking the Death Star in the background. TIE Fighters are swooping in from the right to defend. Fantasma manufactured foil sticker. Back in the day these weren't too hard to locate but these days with the noise of thousands of new collectibles all over the market, less-in-demand vintage Star Wars items are more difficult to locate. Seller like Toy Chamber (POPTOYS) are important to have a clear and reliable source to get your hands on such things without having to pay ignorantly high prices.

Limited Edition 24k Gold Coins from New Zealand Mint

We know... just three days ago we received our Niue silver $1 coins. So what is this that we received tonight??

When we started the autoship program with Collector Alliance they had another program of interest. There's a 24k gold parallel set of coins to the silver set we've been talking about!

Merry Meet Finds Gifts From Friends

A Sunday business meeting doesn't sound like much fun, even if it's for a science fiction convention. The punch, fresh baked cookies, pie, and cheesecake made it much better, and the meeting being filled with decade-long friends took a the very serious nature of a meeting and made it light hearted and fun! Unexpectedly, it also brought a surprise gift.

Capturing Escaped Star Wars Fruit Snacks

Back in 1999 when Farleys released fruit snacks, we had to decide whether to put them into their own category "Packaging: Fruit Snacks", or group them in with "Packaging: Snacks" (which later evolved into "Packaging: Snack Chips"). We made the right choice creating a new category. Betty Crocker came out with Star Wars fruit roll-up snacks in 2002 for Attack of the Clones, Kelloggs made fruit snacks for Revenge of the Sith, and as you know our recent adventures there is a whole series of Jedi fruit snack boxes we're chasing down currently.

Star Wars Collectible Currency from the Island Country of Niue

A lone small brown box in the mailbox was all that greted us when we got home this evening. With this being the Christmas season, there was no guarentee that this was a new Star Wars acquisition, and not a Christmas gift to be wrapped. As it turned out, it was Star Wars.

These silver plated coins are the first shipment of a series currently planned to be a three-year run. Starting this month the coins are going to be produced at approximately one a month and there are 40 coins planned. Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker are sold together as an introductory set, and each additional coin will be shipped separately.

Isn't Halloween the original 'Sithmas'?

So, here's the funny part. back in September we saw a Darth Vader Halloween candy holder on ForbiddenPlanet.co.uk.. Since none of the US sites were reporting it, we flagged it as 'exclusive to the UK' and 'unconfirmed'. It wasn't until mid-way through November that we gave up searching for it and just ordered it from the U.K. They were out of Darth Vader but had a Boba Fett in stock. When it showed it, we discovered that it was made by Rubies Costumes right here in the U.S.A.!! The box even still had the labels where it had been shipped from the U.S. to the U.K. originally.

Star Wars Today: Williams-Sonoma and Target

2010 and 2011 have been a couple of really great years for Williams-Sonoma and useful Star Wars kitchen collectibles!

Just in time for Christmas Williams-Sonoma has released another 4-pack of Star Wars cookie cutters. Chewbacca was a nice addition (now you know what you can get a Wookiee for Christmas... a Wookiee cookie!), but the combination of Jawa, C-3PO, and R2-D2 is what we find exciting. Avid fans of the sandcrawler community, these cookie cutters are going to get worn out long before the grandchildren come along... at least we're going to try to wear them out. Williams-Sonoma branded products are infamous for being long lived. (When 800 years old our cookie cutters are, look as good they will, yes!!)

Star Wars boxes received from Amazon, Forbidden Planet UK, and The GAP!

No store finds today, so it was up to Charlotte the mail lady to deliver our (daily) content to our doorstep. Three boxes brought in some of the more anticipated items of the Black Friday season... although none of them were on BF sale. The last of the Amazon.com search goods, some foreign (UK) treats, and a GAP Kids exclusive make up the haul of the day. (GAP Kids exclusive? That was a first for us!)

Let's Go Kroger'ing!

Not much happening today on the collecting front. No mail, no toy runs planned. Just a quiet day.

A trip to the local Kroger changed that! No matter where you go, Star Wars finds pop out of the woodwork.

Black Friday Online Purchases Arrive!

Black Friday started with a game of cat and mouse. Amazon.com had the Republic Attack Shuttle on Lightning Sale early in the morning. I spent about 40 minutes unsuccessfully trying to out click fellow collectors to get my hands on the $100 toy for $49 with free shipping. Fortunately for me, Star Wars friends sent over emails that Entertainment Earth had also discounted the vehicle / playset for $54 with free postage. I've got an affiliate account at EE that also gets me 7% cash back on my purchases. So I let the EE shopping spree begin!

Amazon.com Page Flipping Pays Off

Before Thanksgiving I was 'page flipping' through the Amazon.com marketplace looking for anything that might have fallen through the cracks for 2011. For some reason there is occasionally better find on Amazon then on eBay. Today I received the fruits of my labor: a Clone Wars bath and body set. It includes a bath mitt, 2 body washes, shampoo, shower gel, lightsaber lip wax, Clone Captain Rex decanter, 5 temporary tattoos and 50 reusable bath decals. Several items in it are re-packs of individually available items, but it was the bath mitt and the Captain Rex decanter that sold it for me. The body wash is the same as I had found at Walmart last week, so Walmart would be a likely place to keep an eye out if you want one of these for your own.

Yoda Holiday Ornament and Chewy Fur Hat

A bit of black Friday Star Wars shopping... One of the few days I'll be at the mall this holiday season, I stopped in to Hot Topic on a whim, looking for the Chewbacca fur hat that hit the website last night. Success! Not only did I save shipping but Hot Topic was also giving out scratch cards for instant savings. Chewy ended up costing me 15% less. What a wonderful Christmas season Star Wars shoppers are in for!

  First Holiday Card Exchange Received!

Thank you, "Alex"! You are the very first person to have your card arrive. Most of the cards we receive aren't Star Wars themed, so that makes it extra special.

For others reading this, if you card is also the 501st legion card, or if your family card isn't Star Wars themed, that's okay. Send them anyway! Christmas and the Holidays aren't about 'mine is this', or 'mine isn't that'. It's about well wishes family-to-family and person to person.

We're looking forward to sharing some Christmas cheer through the card exchange!

Thank you again to "Alex" for the first card, and also for a great Star Wars Collection Diary entry!

For those who are curious, the artwork is by Matt Busch.

Star Wars: In Stores Now, Just In Time For The Holidays

With the sixth Edition of the Wish Book (General Merchandise) already in print, and the seventh edition (Toys Edition) sent off to press for early 2012, we've started to discuss how important the website is going to become for the next couple of years, keeping readers informed about what there is to watch for in their local stores, online shops, and on eBay. Back in 2002 when StarWarsGuide.net started, there was no such word as 'blog', which is what the Collection Diary really embodied.

The Star Wars saga is re-releasing in the theaters in 3D in four short months has started to bring fans and former collectors sniffing around to see what has transpired since they checked in last. The Diary is officially re-launching in 2012, and we decided to get a jump on things during the busy, busy Holidays. Today we start our new journal with some surprise finds!

Back in 2009 Simba Toys, based in Austria, created a line of twelve Star Wars fingerboard skateboards. For fingerboards, these are full scale. Don't let the photos fool you. Each of these packages are a full eleven inches high.

McDonald's Clone Wars Fingerboard Skateboards

For the rest of the year I'm going to turn my attention toward photographing and re-documenting the tens of thousands of collectibles I've stored up over the years. It's never too late to start enjoying what you already own.

When I received the UK McDonald's restaurant toys last week (see story from Friday under New Releases) I went looking for my photos of the Clone Wars fingerboard skateboards from 2010, during Celebration V in Florida. To my disappointment they were in a batch that had never been processed through. The solution? Finished the job!

Twas the Day Before Easter

Super Collector is Back In The Game!

Boredom catches up with collectors very quickly. One day very soon I'll be sorting through my 200 plus boxes of goods which have never seen the light of digital day. (If you think my books have a lot of stuff in them, you ought to see the sheer volume of collectibles that never made it into the pages!) In the mood to see what the retail shelves had to offer the day before Easter, Target was my destination. I went in search of Easter egg kits and the often reported, not yet found, re-stickered Star Wars / Clone Wars Mighty Beanz.
