Nutcrackers and Resin Ornaments Found
To practice the modern tradition of "transparency", it's true that Hallmark has already released the first of their Star Wars holiday ornaments for 2010, and I did in fact purchase the Star Wars Celebration V ornaments last month in Orlando. As both were scheduled releases and I made purposeful trips to go and acquire those ornaments, they really cannot be classified as 'finds'. So, now having addressed in advance the nay-sayers and those who seem to enjoy taking a counter point-of-view, lets get on to what was discovered and where...

Garden Ridge comes through again! It's been a couple of years since Garden Ridge had lead the charge on Star Wars holiday goods. For the past few years Target has held the crown, although not the record. (In 2006 Garden Ridge put out their entire Star Wars Christmas line on July 30th.) For 2010 Garden Ridge has regained the lead with last night's on-the-shelf discovery...
First up were two pricey Kurt S. Adler holiday nutcrackers. Aged collectors who picked up the Steinbach Darth Vader nut cracker for $300 may not have thought twice about paying $25 each for these Darth Vader and R2-D2 nut crackers, but since they're pretty much re-releases with a $10 price increase, I didn't feel much holiday spirit as I spent my hard earned cash on them.
Darth Vader and R2-D2 were the only ones at Garden Ridge. On the back of the box was also shown Yoda (a new sculpt from the previous Yoda) and Captain Rex!! The Captain Rex seems like he's going to be a must-have and my be more difficult to track down. :) The promotional pics of Yoda and Rex are shown below. |   | $14.99 in 2007 |
The next two items rang up as 'licensed resins'. They were real treats for me, especially because Tamara found them after I glazed over the section where they were hiding. The Vader resin is close to four inches in height. Both he and Yoda seem to be nutcracker replicas. They are sold without any packaging and the only markings on them are "(c) Lucasfilm Ltd." and "made in China". They were in a styrofoam try with a bunch of other licensed characters (Simpsons, Snoopy, Batman, etc.) Darth Vader and Yoda were the only Star Wars pieces and they were $5.99 each. |
