    Collection Diary 05-27-06 - Entry 4 of 6

Star Wars Guide Exclusive: Safety Warning!

My MBNA exclusive Star Wars chrome C-3PO, purchased through shop.StarWars.com, arrived in mint condition! I was very pleased to see that the ill-packed shipping box was sufficient to protect the main packaging box.

While there are still some collectibles I claim to be willing to give blood for, it's not often that a collectile draws blood on it's own.

I bought two of these mini busts with the intentions of displaying one and keeping one nice and protected in it's original box. There were 2,500 of the mini busts made. The two I received were numbers 127 and 1285, which means that they were not distributed in any kind of chronological order, and now we'll never truely know how many went out throught MBNA before the remainders were sold off to Shop.StarWars.com

I decided to open number 1285 for display. I opened the box and inside the foam C-3PO's head was loose. (The glue let go of the insertion peg; not a big deal.) When I lifted him out of the box, and immediately an unnoticed pin in his chest lanced my finger and I bled on my statue. Closer inspection revealed two fine pins and a peg on his chest. I figured that they must be attachments for some detail pieces which were nto attached, just as the head came unglued. Searching the packaging turned up nothing. I opened up number 127, whose head was firmly glued into place, and it has the same fine pins.

I have no idea if they are remainders of manufacturing which weren't cleaned up, or some deadly detail that I hadn't ever noticed on C-3PO before, but be very careful when handling any chrome C-3PO. He's capable of defending himself from the unobservant.

Update: Reader 'John' sent in an email, ''Just so you know that his chest plate has the same design on that new UK edition as he appeared in AOTC also. Fortunately I did not get pricked by either version.''

Here's an idea! If you have any particularly 'dangerous' Star Wars toys, drop me a line. Perhaps I'll put together an article on them.
