A Tale of 2 Vaders
I proposed a trade. A Vader for a Vader, each pay own shipping. Robert W. took up the challenge and the trade was made.
In the late 1990's Thinkway (the makers of Thinking Toys) cashed in on the 'new' Star Wars rebirth with two electronic banks: C-3PO with R2-D2, and Darth Vader. Both very pretty cool (for 10 years ago) and many people were surprised that they didn't retain the value of their original retail price tag... $25.00
When Thinkway re-released the Darth Vader bank in a new package for Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith I was determined never to pay for one. (Just as I have no intention to ever pay full retail for the DV voice changer mask.)
Having some extra Darth Vader figures after Star Wars Celebration 3 in Indianapolis, I decided that it would be very collector-like to offer a Vader-for-Vader trade with somebody who didn't have a chance to pick up a figure of their own. It was surprising that it took nearly 2 weeks before somebody stepped up to make the trade.
Today I have added the ROTS Vader Bank to my collection (shown in comparison to the 1997 bank above), and hopefully made another collector very happy in return.
Always remember that in the spirit of collecting it's not always about who can end up with the most cash... just the most toys! =)
