2004 Star Wars Walt Disney Weekends ... Part II

I opted not to buy (at this time) some of the Disney collectibles like the $125 paperweight and the $175 limited edition pin sets... There are also a couple of other items I've bought that haven't arrived yet, but for today I'm going to continue my Disney box that arrived from a very kind eBay seller who helped me out by selling me goods at near-cost.

The Mickey Mouse (Luke) and Minnie Mouse (Leia) ANH pose could be found on many different collectibles throughout the four Star Wars Weekends at Disney during the weekends of May 2004.

Disney's souvenir planners seem to know the secret to make trinkets sell as collectibles. One of the top priorities (in my book) is useability. Sure, the sealed boxes lining my shelves look really cool, all neat and tidy, but I prefer my cookie jars in the kitchen, Sandcrawler planter in the livingroom, etc. The BEST collectibles are those that have homes outside of the display room.

A $3.00 keychain is inexpensive enough that you can buy 2... one to show off and one to use! It's also portable so when you strike up Star Wars conversations with strangers, you can pull out your keys and show off the type of odd collectible available to people who really like to search for them.

I don't know who would actually use this Disney mug! It may not look like much in the image above, but it's HUGE! Easilly 12-14oz! It's an uber-mutant coffee mug! The back is printed with the same design as the front, so even left-handed drinkers can appreciate the graphics. (Having a left-handed son, I have to consider these things.)

The two pins that finish off today's entry are the 2nd weekend pins. Ever since the Disney Weekends started, I never tried to collect the pins. They come out by the drives, and thanks to their cross-market collectibility they really don't drop in value. I'm considering actually trying to collect the set this year though since there aren't an obnoxious amout, and since they focus on the classic trilogy (for the most part) I'm more likely to enjoy them.

As a final personal note... I'd like to wish a Happy Birthday to my sister in Japan! She's decided to stay over there for another year working for Hobby Link Japan a distributor of fine Science Fiction goods. Happy birthday, sis! I hope to see you again soon!
